Course Overview
Conflict is an inevitable and all-pervasive element in our society and the world, it is a reality of social life and exists at all levels of society. History has shown that conflict has its positive results, but its negative consequences have far-reaching effects on the family, community, organization, and nation. The search for peaceful means of resolving and managing conflicts has led to diverse approaches across the globe. Therefore, it is how conflict is managed that makes the difference.
Through its mandate, the Abdulsalami Abubakar Institute for Peace and Sustainable Development Studies is positioned to provide the needed knowledge and practical skills required in managing diverse conflicts. The rising need for conflict mediators globally necessitated the introduction of this course. At the end of the training course, participants will be able to identify early warning signals and appropriate responses to prevent the occurrence of such conflicts.
Course Objectives
This course seeks to offer participants with the basic knowledge of Peace and Conflict Management. At the end of the training participants are expected to:
- Gain a deep understanding of Conflict.
- Get empowered with non-violent skills in conflict management
- Analyze the anatomy of conflicts
- Appraise theories of conflict
- Application of the conflict analysis tools to specific case studies of conflicts
- Apply the skills in mediating conflicts in diverse conflict situations
