This course provides the participants with the knowledge and practical skills necessary for strategic leadership and conflict management.

Course Overview

Senior leaders face an unprecedented number of challenges in today’s fast-changing world, from an evolving workforce to various forms of conflicts between colleagues and other complex strategic issues. It is pertinent to note that due to the wide range of differences among people, conflicts are bound to happen, but with a well-structured preparedness, leaders can limit the damage, take care of those involved and attempt to limit the impact.
Abdulsalami Abubakar Institute for Peace and Sustainable Development Studies is introducing the strategic leadership and conflict management course which is designed to equip leaders with conflict management skills and an all-round understanding of strategic leadership using appropriate skills and tools for developing and managing complex strategic issues. The course aims to enhance leaders’ capability to identify early warning signs and bring to their consciousness that conflict should not be considered good or bad but may be viewed as necessary to help build meaningful relationships between people and teams.
Through this course, leaders will learn how to examine listening skills, strategic verbal and non-verbal communication skills, conflict management skills and how to assemble a conflict management plan likely to yield positive resolutions within teams.

Course Objectives

The overall objective of the course is to equip participants with the appropriate tools, skills and knowledge needed for managing conflict in organizations and businesses. However, the specific objectives are as follows:
  • To gain a deep understanding of the concept of leadership and conflict management.
  • To introduce students to the many leadership techniques needed for conflict management in the workplace.

Teaching Methodology

This course will be intensely interactive and will be delivered through lectures, seminar presentations, problem solving and simulation sessions, tutorials and field visits. Digital learning materials such as power point presentations will also be used for teaching.

Course Module

The course will be delivered on a modular basis and will comprise of ten (10) overarching modules.

The faculty is drawn from experienced professionals in the field; civil society organizations, international agencies, and academia with a view to providing participants with a sound knowledge base, expertise, and skills required to effectively confront the challenges of conflict in the society.
